About Us A Better Tomorrow, Inc. is a nonprofit, 501 (c) (3) organization. We provide in-school, group, and individual mentoring and life skills development. A Better Tomorrow’s “Destiny and Life Choices Mentoring Model” is the foundation of our in-school mentoring program, where we serve 250-500 students per school year. This program has been successful in Washington Alternative School, Howard High School and Orchard Knob Middle School for the past three years. We also conduct group assembly sessions at other Hamilton County Schools, Juvenile Detention Centers, Church youth groups, and summer camps throughout the year. A.B.T has plans to expand into other area middle and high schools in 2007. A.B.T has had great success with this program; 75% of seniors who completed the eight-week “Destiny & Life Choices" in-school mentoring program in 2006 are now attending college. An additional 20% have jobs, are taking a trade, or are attempting to open their own businesses. A.B.T has also developed an “After School Leadership Training & Mentoring Program” which will focus on relationship building, trust, honor and respect. This course is scheduled to begin August 2007. Our Mission The mission of A Better Tomorrow, Inc. (A.B.T) is to help young people discover the positive truth about who they are. We seek to give middle and high school students the necessary tools to both set and achieve goals, as well as to help them make rational and responsible decisions for their future. The work A.B.T does is accomplished by working closely with school staff and parents through the execution of our inspirational “Destiny & Life Choices Mentoring Model”. Our Vision Our staff is dedicated to the development and success of students. We endeavor to give them the tools they will need in order to make better choices for their lives. We challenge each student in our programs to become more responsible on both the personal and community levels. A.B.T emphasizes intellectual, moral and spiritual growth, while helping students define their individual dreams and goals. Through this dedicated mentoring program, positive relationships are built. These relationships allow students to speak openly about life concerns . Within this context, dreams and goals are defined and understood. We then assist students to take action to achieve their goals and thus make it possible for them to have a better tomorrow. Program Goals The Destiny & Life Choices Mentoring and the After School Leadership Training programs are both designed to increase a student’s sense of self-worth and individuality. We assist students in the development of essential leadership character qualities. As part of our commitment to the youth, parents and school staff we serve, A.B.T. seeks to help our students learn to act more responsibly. Students are encouraged to establish life goals and develop a plan of action to achieve them. The A.B.T program is also designed to increase parental awareness and involvement . Program Objectives
The A.B.T. Difference Most programs are designed to address problem behaviors within a distinct cultural group. Addressing behaviors culturally does not allow the fruit of the individual to be seen. The A.B.T model emphasizes the individual and functions through relationships between students, teachers, parents and mentors. In this way, the program is tailored to the needs of the individual student and not merely toward the stereotype of the student’s cultural identity. |
